Thorp Creek is a private, members only shooting range located on 30 acres in Taney County just outside Branson, MO near the Drury-Mincy Conservation Area. The range features four rifle and four pistol shooting stands set on concrete with covered and shaded shooting stalls. Members are screened, background checked, and attend a required safety orientation making Thorp Creek a uniquely safe, courteous, and friendly shooting range for all types of shooters.

The rifle range has steel targets at 100 and 300 yards. The pistol range will meet NRA pistol range design standards for berm construction and will have movable paper target stands out to 25 yards on the centerfire range and out to 50 feet on the rimfire range.

  • The main reason is because safety training fulfills one of the purposes of Thorp Creek, a safe shooting environment for all shooters. Safety training also helps us keep our insurance costs down so we can keep the cost of membership lower.

  • Of course, you will still have to have some form of firearms safety training before using the facility. Go ahead and get your membership application turned in so we can approve you as a member subject to safety training. There is plenty of time to get trained before Thorp Creek officially opens and there are many benefits to being a Founder Member.

Prior to Thorp Creeks opening, you can take a Missouri Department of Conservation hunter safety training course which is offered all online here: https://www.hunter-ed.com/missouri/.

You may also take the NRA Basic Pistol Course online: https://basicpistol.nra.org/.

A CURRENT, UNEXPIRED Missouri CCW Permit will cover both safety training and background check. Submit a copy of your permit with your application.

A EXPIRED Missouri CCW permit will cover the safety traing portion but not the background check. CCW Permits from several other states will also work. Submit a copy and we will let you know if it works.

  • Two reasons: the first is that one of the goals of Thorp Creek is to provide a safe shooting environment for all shooters. The second is insurance, our insurance would be approximately 2.5x higher if we did not do background checks to ensure members to not have a history of violence, especially involving firearms our insurance carrier would increase our yearly premium which would also increase the cost of membership.

  • If we did the check for you, we would have to collect a lot of personal info including your social security number which would defeat another purpose of Thorp Creek, privacy. If you need any assistance with the background check, give us a call at 417 791 5568 and we will walk you through it or you can schedule a time to meet us and we will help you through the check in person.

  • We do have a family membership available, just give us a call at 417 791 5568 and we will go over the family membership options with you.

  • The rifle range has steel targets at 100 and 300 yards. Our targets are 1/2’ AR500 plasma cut, rolled steel and they ring loud and true with every hit. There is a switch back trail allowing access to place paper targets on the 100 Yard target cut. There is no access to the 300 Yard target due to the terrain so only steel targets are placed on the 300 Yard target cut. All the steel is regularly repainted.

There is a 50 yard sighting target with both paper and steel to help you sight in before hitting the longer distances.

The pistol range will have movable paper targets as well as a rotating selection of steel targets.

  • We have partnered with Branson Cerakote to offer Thorp Creek Founder Members a 10% discount. The benefit kicks in upon opening of Thorp Creek in 2023.
